Year 3. Session 6. Week 1.
The Eagles returned this session to find a new studio set up, a growing butterfly garden, new and returning Fellow Travelers, and new instruments in the studio!
Core Skills
In addition to their regularly scheduled Core Skills, the Eagles have the option this session to either work on Silent Core Skills or work on Campus Care in the mornings. Those who choose Campus Care participate in a variety of tasks such as, caring for the butterfly garden, maintaining the orchard, and growing vegetables for the chickens.
Quest
For this session’s Quest, the Eagles will embark on a journey to learn the basics of coding, a journey that culminates in a real-life exploration of the world of robotics! This week, the Eagles began working in their online program to familiarize themselves with how to set goals for their coding challenges. They also discussed what algorithms are and how they will play a role in this session’s quest.
Writers’ Workshop and Word World
This session’s writing journey is Letter to a Hero! Learners will craft letters to send to a Hero that has inspired them. In this first week of Writer’s Workshop, the Ascent Eagles began the writing process by brainstorming heroes and researching these heroes to begin considering questions they could ask and topics they could discuss.
Art – Civilization – Physical Development (P.D.)
Music is the focus for this session’s Art. The Eagles will have the opportunity to deepen or develop an appreciation of music and explore the many ways in which music can be a part of their hero’s journey. This week the Eagles created a few different rhythms that influenced how the entire group would move. They also discussed the potential difficulties and fears that can arise when performing in public.
In Civilization, the Eagles learned about Napoleon’s wars and considered what they would do if they became very wealthy. Then the Eagles put themselves in the shoes of American sailors captured by the British and contemplated if they would fight for the British soldiers to save their lives, or refuse and fight back against difficult odds.
For PD, the Eagles welcomed back their Peak Coaches! Let’s take a look at what physical activities the Eagles started Session 6 off with.
At the end of this session, the Eagles will have the opportunity to attend a rock climbing trip at Reimers Ranch if they earn their Rock Climbing Badges. Stay tuned to see the Eagles’ progress on these Field Badges.
