Year 2. Session 1. Week 5.

As Session 1 drew to a close, all eyes this week were focused on preparing for the Exhibition of Learning! The Eagles put their finishing touches on Game Design Quest and tailored the perfect pitch to deliver to potential customers at the Game Expo. The studio saw those who were finished with their board games either focused on making the best video game they could design or coming to the aid of their fellow travelers to help them tie up any loose ends on their board games to make them world-class!

During Writers’ Workshop, Eagles banded together as a tribe to make sure everyone had a poem to perform at the Exhibition. Eagles who had completed the process stepped up to the plate once again to help their studiomates wrap up the editing and revising needed to get their work published. The final results were showcased with inspiring performances at the Exhibition on Friday.

Quest and Writers’ Workshops are cornerstones to each session’s learning design, but what is not explicitly on the schedule are the leadership skills being developed and the bonds these young heroes are forming. While there are team building exercises and games throughout the session to help strengthen the tribe, the real-world application of this endeavor is most impressive, such as working through conflict resolution, recognizing fellow travelers in need, or collaborating to put on a big event.

The capstone of this session’s Exhibition was the signing of the Studio Contract, a set of meaningful promises to govern the studio. Each promise was discussed and debated over the past few weeks until the Eagles settled on a version they were ready to sign.

Session 1 was challenging, fun, and packed full of growth! However, it’s only the beginning and many more heroic feats are on the horizon. Onwards to Session 2!
