Year 3. Session 6. Week 5.

This week the Eagles focused on the skills and character traits necessary to persevere through failures. To kick off this topic, they discussed what it takes for professional basketball players to continue playing a losing a game until the final buzzer.

For their Robotics and Coding Quest, the Eagles had support from a guest speaker who uses coding in his professional life. With the support of an expert, the tribe began to program their very own robots! The Eagles took their robots through several challenges including choreographing a dance, getting through an obstacle course, escaping a maze, playing balloon soccer, and creating robotic art.

For Core Skills, the Eagles have been working hard on many different badges and there were 17 badges submitted this week. In particular, the Eagles seem to be spending much of their time on earning their Learning To Be badges. These badges focus on the traits of servant leaders, developing empathy to better serve the needs of others, and deep gratitude.

In Writers’ Workshop and Word World the Eagles used peer critiques to make improvements to their hero letters. First, they explored how to provide feedback and be a good critic by being kind, specific, and helpful. They then discussed and practiced how to receive feedback and incorporate it into their hero letters.

For Art, the Eagles had the option to perform the songs and rhythms they have been working on for their tribe. Performing in front of peers proved to be more difficult than some of them had anticipated which provided plenty of opportunities for the tribe to encourage and support its members.

For Physical Development, the Eagles continued to practice their ball handling skills during kickball games with their PD coaches. They then moved to a few different versions of tag to get some fun cardio in.

The Eagles implemented a new Studio Maintenance system in which they decided to provide themselves with an extrinsic reward if they were able to work together to complete all the tasks necessary to reset their studio for an entire week. Stay tuned to see how the Eagles persevere after not earning their reward this week.
