Landing the Plane

Six weeks ago, we opened the doors to a new year, our seventh since the founding of Ascent. Fresh faces, familiar ones, and the quiet buzz of possibility that always fills the studio at the start of a session. Those first days were full of setting intentions, finding rhythms, and learning how to move together as a community. Now, as we close our first session, it feels like the right moment to pause, look back, and appreciate how much has unfolded.

A Celebration of Growth

Our first exhibition brought the community together to celebrate each learner’s progress. Learners shared their SMART goals, reflected on the steps they’ve taken, and showed their work from Writers’ Workshop and the Build the Tribe Quest. Every display, story, and reflection revealed effort, growth, and pride, reminders of how much can happen in just six weeks when learners own their journey.

Signing the Studio Contract

One of the most meaningful moments of this session was finalizing and signing the Studio Contract. Learners approached this process thoughtfully, exploring what it means to create a space built on trust, respect, and responsibility. After many drafts, discussions, and votes, they came together to sign a document that reflects who they want to be as a tribe. Watching them reach this shared agreement was a powerful reminder of how learning to live in community is just as important as mastering academics.

Looking Ahead

This session brought moments of joy, challenge, discovery, and growth. Learners practiced patience, curiosity, and courage. All great qualities that will serve them as we move into the next chapter.

As we wrap up Session 1, we do so with anticipation for what’s next. May this break bring rest and renewal, and may we return ready to keep building, learning, and growing together in Session 2.
