Explore Year 6. Session 6. Week 5.

Week 5 was a celebration of learning, creativity, community, and courage.

QUEST

In week 5, Explorers stepped into the shoes of scientists as they dove into the world of taxonomy. They learned how living things are named and classified through binomial nomenclature. Armed with new knowledge and curiosity, they explored the campus like field biologists, searching for plants, animals, and insects to classify. Each observation became a new discovery of which kingdoms of life live on their campus.

As the session drew to a close, learners also began designing original biology experiments, which they will begin testing in Session 7. The scientific journey continues!

ART

The studio was buzzing with creativity as Explorers finished writing, rehearsing, and performing their original radio plays. They practiced reading their lines with confidence, added sound effects using clever methods, and brought their stories to life in front of their Fellow Travelers.

WRITERS’ WORKSHOP

In Writers’ Workshop, Explorers spent time researching two inspiring scientists from the world of biology. The wrote biographies of both biologists in weeks 1 through 4, and in week 5 they finished crafting a final comparison piece reflecting on which scientist they believe made the biggest impact—and why.

SHOWCASE PRESENTATIONS

To close the session, Explorers shared personal reflections on their journey with their guests during Showcase Presentations. Each learner highlighted the challenges they faced and how they overcame them or how they learned from their failures, their big wins, and the habits that helped them grow.
